Here is a little problem:

The day 14/01/08 you have 44.13 MBq of P-32 in your stock, and your authorized limit is 90 MBq for that radioisotope.

One laboratory of your facility need to buy 37 MBq of P-32 and they want the product the day 21/01/08. The date of calibration of the product is 25/01/08. You recieved another request, from another laboratory, that wants 37 MBq of P-32 and wants to recieve the product the day 28/01/08 (calibrated on 1/02/08).

Can you buy the 2 products? the amount of activity will surpass or not the authorized limits for that radioisope?

When you want to make a request of radioactive material, and introduce the product in the application, if the forecast remaining radioactive activity, in the day of reception that you want, exceeds the authorized limits for that radioisotope, an automatic message will inform you about this fact. Then you have to change the activity or the date of reception.

SOLUTION :

1- First product request:

Your remaining activity for P-32 the day 14/01/08 is 44.128 MBq.
Your remaining activity for P-32 the day of reception (21/01/08) will be 31.418 MBq (by radioactive decay)
The first product will arrive the day 21/01/08 (calibrated 25/01/08) at your facility with 44.927 MBq.

44.927MBq + 31.418 MBq = 76.345 MBq < 90 MBq (your authorized limit for P-32)

You can buy the product. The sum of activities is correct.

2- Second product request:

Your remaining activity for P-32 the day 21/01/08 will be 76.345 MBq.
Your remaining activity for P-32 the day of reception (28/01/08) will be 54.356 MBq (by radioactive decay)
The second product will arrive the day 28/01/08 (calibrated 01/02/08) at your facility with 44.927 MBq.

44.927MBq + 54.356 MBq = 99.283MBq > 90 MBq (your authorized limit for P-32)

When you will recieved the second product you will surpass your authorized limit in 9.28 MBq .
You can't buy the product for that date.
You need to request this product for another day (for example for the day 31/01/08, or request less activity, like 18.5 MBq...)
